I received my liquid cooling kit today from Koolance and despite the fact that I am now pumping liquid through a pc, it was one of the easier things I’ve done lately.
Pull out one 8800GTX video card.

BFG 8800GTX
Take the heat sink and fan off. Put video cooler on, replacing heat sink and fan.

BFG 8800GTX with cooler
Repeat process on second video card. Link the cards together.

Two BFG 8800GTX cards linked
Put the two cards back in their home. Call it a day.

Video cards in the case
A quick temperature check while running GPU password cracking software revealed a drop in GPU core temperature from 80 degrees Celcius without the liquid cooling to 62 degress Celcius with the liquid cooling. Good news! Now I don’t have to worry about cooking my video cards while password cracking. The cooling unit by the way is a Koolance Exos LT. It seems to be doing quite well so far.

Just ordered a liquid cooling system from Koolance for my two 8800GTX video cards so I can keep them cool during gaming and password cracking. I’ve never used liquid cooling before so this should be fun. I’ll put some pictures up as I install the components.

If there is any doubt to the power of graphics processing unit (GPU) password cracking, take a look at the speed comparison screenshots below. Example is running against an NTLM hash. More to come on this type of cracking…
